Ingredients:
- 2 sirloin steaks, about 1-inch thick (approximately 8oz/225g each)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (15 ml)
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt (6g)
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (3g)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (2g)
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder (1g)
- Optional: 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika (for a smoky flavour)
Instructions:
- Pat the steaks dry with paper towels. This ensures a good sear.
- In a small bowl, combine olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika (if using). Rub the mixture evenly over both sides of the steaks.
- Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3-5 minutes. This is crucial for a proper sear.
- Place the steaks in the air fryer basket in a single layer, ensuring they are not overcrowded.
- Cook for: Medium-Rare: 8-10 minutes (internal temperature 130-135°F/54-57°C), Medium: 10-12 minutes (internal temperature 135-145°F/57-63°C), Medium-Well: 12-14 minutes (internal temperature 145-155°F/63-68°C), Well-Done: 14-15 minutes (internal temperature 155°F+/68°C+). Important: Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature for accuracy.
- Remove the steaks from the air fryer and let them rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute, resulting in a more tender and flavorful steak.
- Slice the steak against the grain and serve immediately.
