Ingredients:
- 3 lbs Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples, peeled, cored, and sliced 1/4 inch thick
- 0.5 cup granulated sugar
- 2.5 tsp ground cinnamon, divided
- 1.5 cups plus 1 tbsp all-purpose flour, divided
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 0.75 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 0.5 tsp salt
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples with 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 1 tsp ground cinnamon, 1 tsp vanilla extract, and 1 tbsp of all-purpose flour.
- Let the apple mixture macerate for 10 minutes to allow juices to release and form a syrup.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together 1.5 cups flour, 1 cup brown sugar, 1.5 tsp ground cinnamon, and 1/2 tsp salt.
- Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or fingertips, work the butter in until distinct, sandy crumbles form.
- Transfer the apple mixture into a 9x13 inch baking dish, spreading evenly.
- Distribute the streusel topping evenly over the apples.
- Bake for 45 minutes or until the topping is a deep mahogany brown and the fruit juices are bubbling.
