- 4 cups peeled and diced apples
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar (for sprinkling, optional)
Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, and sugar.
- Add cold cubed butter, and cut in using a pastry cutter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add ice water, mixing until dough forms.
- Shape into a disk, wrap, and chill for at least 30 minutes.
- In a large bowl, toss diced apples with lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch.
- Let the mixture sit for 15 minutes to soften.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll out dough on a floured surface into a large circle.
- Cut the dough into smaller squares or triangles.
- Fold and shape each piece into origami-style designs.
- Place formed origami pieces on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Fill the center with apple mixture, ensuring a beautiful presentation.
- Brush with the egg wash and sprinkle with sugar.
- Bake for 30-45 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbling.
- Allow to cool for 15 minutes before serving.
