Ingredients:

  • 5-6 tbsp ice water
  • 4 cups peeled and diced apples
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar (for sprinkling, optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, and sugar.
  2. Add cold cubed butter, and cut in using a pastry cutter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually add ice water, mixing until dough forms.
  4. Shape into a disk, wrap, and chill for at least 30 minutes.
  5. In a large bowl, toss diced apples with lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch.
  6. Let the mixture sit for 15 minutes to soften.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Roll out dough on a floured surface into a large circle.
  9. Cut the dough into smaller squares or triangles.
  10. Fold and shape each piece into origami-style designs.
  11. Place formed origami pieces on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  12. Fill the center with apple mixture, ensuring a beautiful presentation.
  13. Brush with the egg wash and sprinkle with sugar.
  14. Bake for 30-45 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbling.
  15. Allow to cool for 15 minutes before serving.
