Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 tablespoons (45ml) extra virgin olive oil
  • 6-8 cloves fresh garlic, very finely minced or grated (about 2 tablespoons)
  • 1/4 cup (6g) fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 cup (25g) grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large baguette or a rustic Italian loaf (about 16-inch), preferably day-old

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a small mixing bowl, combine the softened unsalted butter, extra virgin olive oil, finely minced fresh garlic, chopped fresh parsley, kosher salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Add the grated Parmesan cheese. Mix thoroughly with a fork or spatula until all ingredients are evenly incorporated and the garlic butter is fragrant and well-combined.
  2. Carefully slice the baguette lengthwise, almost but not entirely through, creating two halves connected at the base. This allows for easy spreading and a large surface area for the garlic butter. Alternatively, you can slice the baguette into individual 1-inch thick slices, stopping just before cutting all the way through, to create an accordion-style loaf.
  3. Generously spread the prepared garlic butter mixture evenly over the cut sides of the baguette halves (or between the accordion slices) using a pastry brush or the back of a spoon, ensuring good coverage.
  4. Place the buttered baguette halves, cut-side up, on a baking sheet. For a softer interior and to allow the flavors to meld without over-browning too quickly, loosely tent the bread with aluminum foil. Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes.
  5. Remove the aluminum foil. Increase the oven temperature to 400°F (200°C). Return the bread to the oven and bake for an additional 4-5 minutes, or until the garlic bread is golden brown at the edges, the surface is gloriously crisp, and the kitchen is filled with an aromatic scent.
  6. Carefully remove the garlic bread from the oven. Let it cool for a minute or two before slicing into individual portions (if not already pre-sliced) and serving immediately. Enjoy your homemade, perfectly crispy garlic bread!
