Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 4-6 tablespoons ice water
- 3 large apples, peeled, cored, and diced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
- Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)
Instructions:
- Combine flour, salt, and sugar in a bowl.
- Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together.
- Form into a disc, wrap in plastic, and chill for 30 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix diced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and melted butter. Set aside to allow flavors to meld.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/8-inch thickness. Cut into circles using a pastry cutter or plate as a guide.
- Place a spoonful of apple filling on one half of each dough circle. Fold the other half over and seal the edges with a fork.
- Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the pies until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove and drain on a cooling rack.
- Dust with powdered sugar if desired and serve warm.
