Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon (5g) active dry yeast
  • ¾ teaspoon (4g) salt
  • ¾ cup (180ml) warm water (about 110°F / 43°C)
  • 1 tablespoon (12g) sugar
  • 4 tablespoons (½ stick / 56g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon (2g) dried oregano (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit until frothy, about 5-10 minutes.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Create a well in the center, then add the yeast mixture. Mix until a rough dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 30 minutes.
  4. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  5. Roll dough into a rope about 10 inches long, then tie it into a knot. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Repeat with remaining dough.
  6. In a small bowl, mix melted butter, minced garlic, olive oil, oregano, and red pepper flakes.
  7. Brush knots with garlic butter. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Remove from oven and brush with any remaining garlic butter. Sprinkle with fresh parsley and serve warm.
