Ingredients:

  • 4 large apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (about 1 kg)
  • ¼ cup (50 g) brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch (or arrowroot powder, for thickening)
  • 1 cup (100 g) gluten-free rolled oats
  • ¾ cup (75 g) almond flour (or gluten-free flour blend)
  • ½ cup (100 g) coconut sugar or brown sugar
  • ½ cup (115 g) unsalted butter, melted (or coconut oil for dairy-free)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup (60 ml) maple syrup (optional for added sweetness)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples. In a mixing bowl, combine sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Toss to coat evenly. Transfer the apple mixture to the baking dish.
  3. In another bowl, mix the oats, almond flour, coconut sugar, and salt. Stir in the melted butter (or coconut oil) and mix until crumbly. Add maple syrup if desired.
  4. Evenly sprinkle the topping over the apple mixture in the baking dish.
  5. Bake for 35-40 minutes until the apples are bubbly and the topping is golden brown.
  6. Let it cool for 10 minutes before serving with ice cream or whipped cream.
