Ingredients:

  • 2.5 lbs (approximately 1.1 kg) Apples (Gala, Honeycrisp, Fuji, or mix)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) Water
  • 1/4 cup (50g) Granulated Sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon (optional)
  • Pinch of Salt

Instructions:

  1. Peel, core, and chop the apples into roughly equal-sized pieces.
  2. In the saucepan, combine the apples, water, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon (if using), and salt.
  3. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Cover the saucepan and cook, stirring occasionally, until the apples are very soft and easily mashable, about 30-40 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat. For chunky applesauce, mash with a potato masher. For smoother applesauce, use an immersion blender.
  5. Taste and adjust sweetness or spices as needed. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
