Ingredients:

  • 1 cup basmati rice (200 grams)
  • 1.5 cups water (360 ml)
  • 1 teaspoon salt (5 grams) - optional
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil or unsalted butter (15 ml) - optional

Instructions:

  1. Place basmati rice in a fine-mesh strainer. Rinse under cold running water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch (about 2-3 minutes).
  2. In a medium-sized pot, add 1.5 cups of water. Add salt and oil if desired.
  3. Add the rinsed rice to the pot. Stir gently to distribute. Bring the water to a rolling boil over high heat.
  4. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a lid. Simmer for 15-20 minutes without lifting the lid, until all water is absorbed.
  5. Remove the pot from heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes. Fluff the rice gently with a fork before serving.
