Ingredients:

  • 1 cup basmati rice (190 g)
  • 1.5 cups water (360 ml)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter or vegetable oil (15 g)
  • ½ teaspoon salt (2 g, optional)

Instructions:

  1. Place the basmati rice in a fine-mesh sieve and rinse under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.
  2. Transfer the rinsed rice to a bowl, cover with water, and let it soak for about 30 minutes to enhance the texture.
  3. After soaking, drain the rice again in the sieve to remove any excess water.
  4. In a medium saucepan, add 1.5 cups of water and bring to a boil. If desired, add butter and salt to the water.
  5. Once the water is boiling, add the soaked and drained basmati rice.
  6. Stir briefly, then cover with the lid. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes without lifting the lid.
  7. After 15 minutes, remove the pan from the heat and let it sit, covered, for 5 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork before serving.
