Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (200g) white long grain rice
  • 2 cups (480ml) water
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) unsalted butter or olive oil (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon (3g) salt (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Place the rice in a fine-mesh strainer and rinse under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine rinsed rice, water, and optional salt and butter/oil.
  3. Over medium-high heat, bring the mixture to a boil.
  4. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until the rice absorbs all the water. Use a timer for accuracy.
  5. Remove from heat and let sit, covered, for 5 minutes.
  6. Use a fork to fluff the rice before serving.
