Ingredients:
- 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, slightly cold but pliable
- 1 cup (200g) granulated white sugar
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 0.5 tsp almond extract
- 3 cups (375g) all-purpose flour, leveled
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 0.5 tsp salt
- 0.5 cup Valentine-themed heart sprinkles
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 180°C. (350°F) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a stand mixer or large bowl, beat the cold butter and granulated sugar on medium speed for exactly 2 minutes until smooth but not aerated.
- Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract. Mix until just incorporated.
- Whisk together the flour, cornstarch, and salt in a separate bowl. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture.
- Mix until the dough forms a ball and pulls away cleanly from the sides of the bowl.
- Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to 6mm thickness. Cut into heart shapes using cookie cutters.
- Press heart sprinkles into the tops of the cut-out dough shapes.
- Bake for 8 minutes. The edges should be set but not browned. Cool on the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
