Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, slightly cold but pliable
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated white sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 0.5 tsp almond extract
  • 3 cups (375g) all-purpose flour, leveled
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.5 cup Valentine-themed heart sprinkles

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C. (350°F) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a stand mixer or large bowl, beat the cold butter and granulated sugar on medium speed for exactly 2 minutes until smooth but not aerated.
  3. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract. Mix until just incorporated.
  4. Whisk together the flour, cornstarch, and salt in a separate bowl. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture.
  5. Mix until the dough forms a ball and pulls away cleanly from the sides of the bowl.
  6. Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to 6mm thickness. Cut into heart shapes using cookie cutters.
  7. Press heart sprinkles into the tops of the cut-out dough shapes.
  8. Bake for 8 minutes. The edges should be set but not browned. Cool on the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
