Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (170g) uncooked quinoa
  • 2 cups (473ml) water or vegetable broth
  • 1 tbsp (15ml) olive oil or unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp (6g) kosher salt
  • 1 tsp (2g) freshly cracked black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp (1g) garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp (1g) onion powder

Instructions:

  1. Place the quinoa in a fine-mesh strainer and rinse under cold running water for 30 seconds, shaking well to remove excess water.
  2. Heat the olive oil or butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the rinsed quinoa and stir constantly for 3-5 minutes until the grains smell nutty and look slightly golden.
  3. Stir in the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder, then pour in the water or broth.
  4. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil, then immediately reduce heat to low. Cover with a tight-fitting lid and simmer for 15 minutes.
  5. Remove the pot from the heat and let it sit undisturbed with the lid on for 5 minutes. Remove the lid and gently fluff the grains with a fork.
