Ingredients:
- 1 cup (170g) uncooked quinoa
- 2 cups (473ml) water or vegetable broth
- 1 tbsp (15ml) olive oil or unsalted butter
- 1 tsp (6g) kosher salt
- 1 tsp (2g) freshly cracked black pepper
- 1/2 tsp (1g) garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp (1g) onion powder
Instructions:
- Place the quinoa in a fine-mesh strainer and rinse under cold running water for 30 seconds, shaking well to remove excess water.
- Heat the olive oil or butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the rinsed quinoa and stir constantly for 3-5 minutes until the grains smell nutty and look slightly golden.
- Stir in the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder, then pour in the water or broth.
- Bring the mixture to a rolling boil, then immediately reduce heat to low. Cover with a tight-fitting lid and simmer for 15 minutes.
- Remove the pot from the heat and let it sit undisturbed with the lid on for 5 minutes. Remove the lid and gently fluff the grains with a fork.
