Ingredients:

  • 1 bunch Swiss chard (approximately 1 pound / 450 grams), stems removed and leaves chopped into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (30 mL)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Juice of 1 lemon (about 2 tablespoons / 30 mL)
  • Zest of 1 lemon (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for serving)

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the Swiss chard leaves under cold water. Remove the stems and chop them separately from the leaves.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  3. Add minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using) to the oil. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant—avoid burning.
  4. Add chopped Swiss chard stems first; sauté for 2 minutes. Next, add Swiss chard leaves; sauté for an additional 3-5 minutes until wilted.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat and stir in lemon juice and zest.
  6. Transfer to a serving platter and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese, if desired.
