Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
- 1/2 teaspoon (3g) salt
- 1/2 cup (1 stick/113g) unsalted butter, very cold and cut into cubes
- 1/4 cup (60ml) ice water
- 6 medium apples (about 1.5 lbs / 680g), such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix
- 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons (30g) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons apricot jam, for glazing (optional)
Instructions:
- Combine flour and salt in a food processor or bowl. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add ice water until the dough just comes together. Form into a disc, wrap in plastic, and chill for at least 1 hour.
- Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples. Toss with sugar, melted butter, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough into a circle slightly larger than your tart pan.
- Gently transfer the dough to the tart pan, pressing it into the bottom and up the sides. Trim any excess dough and crimp the edges for a decorative finish.
- Arrange the apple slices in a circular pattern in the tart shell, overlapping slightly.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 45-55 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- While the tart is still warm, brush the surface with melted apricot jam for a glossy finish (optional).
- Let the tart cool slightly before removing it from the pan. Serve warm or at room temperature. This delicious apple tart is ready to be served.
