Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (240g) active sourdough starter
  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup (150g) brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp (5ml) vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp (3g) baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp (3g) salt
  • 1 cup (175g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup (90g) chopped nuts (optional)
  • Vanilla ice cream (optional)
  • Whipped cream (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Gently mix in the active sourdough starter until combined.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Gently fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using).
  8. Pour the dough into the cast iron skillet, spreading it evenly.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and set in the center.
  10. Allow to cool slightly, then serve warm, topped with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream if desired.
