Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup (45g) coarsely ground, high-quality coffee beans
- 2 cups (475ml) filtered water (cold)
- 1/2 cup (120ml) coffee concentrate
- 1/2 cup (120ml) milk/plant-based milk
- 1-2 cups ice
- 1-2 teaspoons sugar, simple syrup, honey, or sweetener (optional)
Instructions:
- Coarsely grind your high-quality coffee beans. A coarser grind is crucial for cold brew to prevent over-extraction and bitterness.
- Combine coarsely ground coffee and cold filtered water in a French press or jar. Stir gently to ensure all grounds are submerged.
- Cover the French press or jar and let it steep in the refrigerator for 12-24 hours (depending on desired strength). 16 hours is usually the sweet spot.
- Once steeped, press the French press or strain the coffee concentrate through a filter (cheesecloth, nut milk bag, or coffee filter) to remove the grounds.
- Fill a tall glass with ice. Add the desired amount of coffee concentrate (start with 1/2 cup and adjust to your taste).
- Pour in your choice of milk or plant-based milk. Sweeten to taste with sugar, simple syrup, honey, or your preferred sweetener.
- Stir well to combine and enjoy your homemade iced coffee!
