Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (400 g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (115 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (230 g) unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 4 cups (480 g) powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • Green food coloring
  • Black food coloring (for field markings)
  • Edible football player figures
  • Miniature goal posts
  • Additional sprinkles or edible decorations

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour the round cake pans.
  3. In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. In a mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  5. Incorporate eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  6. Gradually add dry ingredients and milk alternately, mixing until combined.
  7. Divide batter evenly between the pans and bake for 25-30 minutes. Check for doneness using a toothpick.
  8. Let the cakes cool in their pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.
  9. Beat butter, powdered sugar, cream, and vanilla until smooth. Divide and color portions for decorating (green and black).
  10. Place one layer on a serving platter, frost with a layer of green buttercream, add the second layer, then frost the entire cake.
  11. Use black buttercream to pipe yard lines and end zones, arrange the players and goalposts.
