Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (45g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup (150g) coconut sugar
  • 1 cup (240ml) filtered water
  • 1/4 tsp (1.5g) fine sea salt
  • 1 tsp (5ml) pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp (14g) melted coconut oil

Instructions:

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the cocoa powder, coconut sugar, and sea salt. Whisk vigorously for 30 seconds until the mixture is a uniform brown color and no large clumps remain.
  2. Slowly pour in the water while whisking constantly to create a smooth paste.
  3. Turn the heat to medium and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Continue to whisk occasionally for 5–8 minutes until the syrup thickens slightly and develops a glossy, mahogany sheen.
  4. Remove the pan from the heat immediately. Stir in the vanilla extract and the melted coconut oil. Whisk until the fat is fully incorporated and the syrup is velvety.
  5. Allow the syrup to cool for 10 minutes before transferring to a glass storage jar.
